Bedroom Closet Storage

If you're like me, you never quite have enough storage, especially in the bedroom. Some houses have huge walk in closets, but ours is rather small so we've had to come up with ways to maximize our storage options and make the most of our available space.

I added a small 4 drawer dresser to the closet which isn't tall enough to interfere with the hanging clothes yet adds several more drawers of clothing storage. There is still room on the sides for stacking small boxes.

I have an over the door shoe hanging rack to organize a dozen pairs of shoes. Anything that can be hung up, should be. If you put your shoes on the floor you'll start a habit of piling everything down there and pretty soon you won't have any idea what you have, other than a huge mess.

If you don't want to put in the dresser drawers you can install a second hanging rod at least 34 inches lower than the top rod and gain a great place to hang short clothes.

My brother in law has a great habit of hanging everything the same direction. That way he always knows what he has and can quickly scan the items to pick what he wants to wear. It also looks very neat. You can take it to the next level by putting everything in color groupings, which really makes a closet look organized. Make your own clothing rainbow.
